Travel News Weekly by Turnpikes.com for January 5, 2026

Video date: January 05, 2026

In this video: Monday marked the first day back to work following weekend toll hikes, including those in New York City and in Detroit. Congestion tolling is one-year old as of Monday, but a second anniversary is still questionable. And the Bridge of the Gods turns 100 in 2026. Danny Pryor reports for Turnpikes.com.

Full description: Back to work means a costlier drive for commuters in the New York City metro area, after weekend toll hikes went into effect; a new toll hike went into effect Monday on the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, also. Expect the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City to go 'under the shovel', as it were, as a new widening project is set to begin. Both sides of the congestion tolling argument will have their day in federal court at the end of January; and The Bridge of the Gods over the Columbia River is 100 years old this year, and the planning is about to get underway for a summer festival.
