Travel News Weekly by Turnpikes.com for February 23, 2026

Video date: February 23, 2026

In this video: A major construction project begins in Oklahoma City, and cashless tolling is about to go live in Richmond, Virginia. Meanwhile, testing continues on components of the new Gordie Howe bridge as official port status becomes effective. That and more in this week's update. Danny Pryor reports for Turnpikes.com.

Full description: Official port-of-entry status will take effect March 2 for the U.S. side of the Gordie Howe Bridge, even though the U.S. president capriciously suggested in a social media post he would block the opening. Meanwhile, a U.K. investment firm is buying out the concession to operate the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. In Virginia, cashless tolling is set to take effect any day in Richmond, although the local tolling authority has yet to announce a specific date. Elsewhere, a major widening project enters a new phase in Oklahoma City with the widening of a segment of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike. That and this week's key road closures.
